At The Golf Doctor, we believe that to properly fit you for
clubs, we want to match playing conditions for you as closely as
possible. An outdoor hitting environment is critical to the process.
No matter how realistic an indoor simulator may be, you are still
indoors, hitting shots that carry only a few feet, a fraction of
their actual distance. How much will you be intimidated by the
indoor surroundings? Are you making unconscious adjustments because
of the conditions?
When you hit golf balls in a real world situation, you get the
confidence of seeing exactly where the ball is going. Yes, we use
the latest analysis equipment, including launch monitors to collect
data while monitoring your shots, but more importantly you can see
what is actually happening and where your shots actually go.
A clubfitting at The Golf Doctor is a comprehensive, performance
based process that is designed to make sure that you have the
optimal golf clubs for your game. The process has been developed
over 15 years, and insures that you get the best equipment that we
can design. At The Golf Doctor, we have over 1,000 different test
club combinations to insure that we can determine the proper shaft for you. Other
so-called "fitting systems" give you few options even as
they make you believe that you are being accurately fit. At best,
you'll be able to try one or two shafts in a couple of different
flexes.

"You built me a set of clubs…I played my first round with
them …let me tell you WOW! I had never struck the ball better. I
hit 11 of 14 fairways with the other three on the fringe. You were
right [the new driver] loft really made a difference in distance and
accuracy. I went from averaging 250 yards to 275 yards.
Unbelievable. Thanks, Ed and Matt once again for your knowledge and
craftsmanship."

Trackman Gapping
Session
¹
1.5 - 2 hours
$$ 200.00
One of the most important questions
you need to be able to answer in golf is "how far do you hit
your clubs?" In order to know which club to hit in a certain
situation, you need to know your distances. Until now, it has been
almost impossible to accurately gauge these measurements on your
own.
A TrackMan™ Gapping Session gives
you the relevant information to help you make the correct decisions
on the golf course. In addition, this session can point out
potential problems like incorrect lie angles, or yardage gaps.
During this session, you will hit a
series of shots with every club in your bag to get accurate
measurements for each club. In addition, you will be hitting premium
golf balls - not range balls - so that the measurements are real
world measurements. Hitting range balls or hitting into a net can
reflect real world conditions, but just like your car windows,
reflections may appear different than reality.

Trackman Driver
Fitting
¹
1 - 1.5 hours
$$ 100.00
Golfers and Club Manufacturers have
been talking about the importance of "launch Angle" for
several years now. In fact, at The Golf Doctor, we bought our first
launch monitor in 1999. The angle that your golf ball is launched
into the air is important, but equally important is the angle that
your ball descends and the spin rate of the golf ball through its
flight.
Up until now, no launch monitor could
give you the descent angle for the simple reason that no machine
could track the ball that far. TrackMan™ changes all of that. By
measuring the entire flight of the ball, TrackMan™ allows us to
accurately determine the descent angle of the ball and better fit
you so that you get maximum carry and roll from your drives.
The amount of ball spin effects how
the golf ball lifts into the air. Too little spin and the ball loses
carry distance; too much spin and the ball loses roll. The closer
your driver comes to optimizing the spin rates of your golf ball,
the closer you can come to maximum overall distance.
Different golfers have different
natural shot tendencies (some hit a draw; some hit a fade) and so do
different clubheads. Some clubheads are designed to promote one type
of ball flight over another. The wood fitting gives us the ability
to match your swing with the appropriate type of clubhead to
optimize your performance.
During the driver fitting, we use
numerous test clubs as well as Callaway's Opti-Fit system so that
you get the best possible choice for your bag. At the conclusion of
the fitting, you will know the appropriate club characteristics for
your swing.

Trackman Iron
Fitting
¹
2 - 2.5 hours
$$ 150.00
While most of the time spent in any of
the fittings is dedicated to shaft characteristics, a significant
part of the iron fitting is determining the proper clubheads and set
make-up for you. Do you need offset or a wide sole? A
blade or an oversize cavity-back or something in between? Some
golfers carry a #2 iron; some won't carry anything longer than a #5
iron. We take the time to make sure that you get the clubs
that you need without getting stuck with clubs that you don't need
or would find difficult to use.

consistency of the swing provided by your clubs. I have recommended
your clubs and techniques to all my friends"

Trackman Long Game
Fitting
¹
1 - 1.5 hours
$$ 100.00
Do you need hybrid or fw woods or
some combination of both? Different golfers will perform
better with different clubs, and the long game is critical to
improving your game. The Long Game Fitting at The Golf Doctor
will help you by measuring your performance with different types of
clubs.
FW Woods:
While finding the correct shaft is
critical for fitting fairway woods, finding that shaft isn't enough;
we also need to determine both the correct type of fairway wood and
the appropriate loft. Some golfers might need a #3 wood while
others might need a #4 wood built to a #3 wood length. Some
golfers benefit from low profile heads, while others need higher
profile clubs.
Hybrids:
More and more golfers are using
hybrids these days. As their popularity has grown, the variety
of head and shaft types has also grown. Getting fitted for a
hybrid makes sure that these "rescue" clubs are as easy
and forgiving to hit as possible. Do you need offset?
Are you better off with a fairway hybrid or an iron hybrid?

"39.75%. That's right 39.75%. That's the percentage my
U.S.G.A. handicap has lowered since you custom fit my Hogan irons
approximately one year ago. At first I couldn't believe some of the
iron shots coming off the club face. Piercing, flag-seeking,
green-biting, help me beat the other guy iron shots. As you said
would happen, my shot dispersion reduced dramatically, which made my
approach shots closer to the hole…My expectations were definitely
exceeded by the results. I was planning to send this letter about a
month after getting my clubs back, but decided to wait wanting to
make sure it wasn't "beginner's luck" with the new clubs.
As you can tell by my index, it wasn't."

Trackman Wedge
Session
¹
1 - 1.5 hours
$
$ 100.00
Another fitting involves selecting
the proper wedges for your game. Different course conditions require
different wedges. So do different swings. We make sure that
you are getting the right wedges so that your short game is the best
that it can be. TrackMan™ allows us to accurately measure
spin rates from your wedges and makes it easier to choose the right
wedges for you. In addition, we can "gap" the wedges
more efficiently to insure that you have the right scoring clubs in
your bag to give you a better shot at the pin.

Trackman Ball
Fitting
¹
1 hour
$
$ 75.00
Are you playing the best ball for
your game? First you need to ask yourself what your goals are before
selecting a golf ball. Do you want to hit the ball farther? Do you
need a higher or lower trajectory? Do you need more or less spin
around the greens? Different balls will satisfy different needs and
no ball does everything, so you need to really consider what is
important to you.
A TrackMan™ ball fitting takes
specific measurements of the golf ball when you hit it with your own
clubs. At The Golf Doctor, we can take your goals and determine the
best ball from your performance. This is real world testing, not a
generic one size fits all chart. You will hit different balls and
the results will be tailored to you.
At The Golf Doctor, you can currently
test with the following golf balls:
- Titleist ProV1
- Titleist ProV1x
- Titleist NXT Tour
- Top Flite D2 Distance
- Top Flite D2 Feel
- TaylorMade TP Red
- TaylorMade TP Black
|
- Callaway Tour ix
- Callaway HX Tour
- Callaway HX Hot
- Maxfli Noodle

Putter Fittings
¹
45-60 minute session
$$ 50.00
The most important club in your bag
is your putter. An average golfer will hit his or her driver 12-13
times in a round; they'll hit a 7-iron 15 times; a SW 14 times.
But,
the average golfer will hit their putter 32 times a round! You'll
use your putter more than twice as often as any other club in the
bag. If you're using a club that often, it needs to match how you
putt.
Putter fittings at The Golf Doctor
are designed to help you to become a better putter. We test you to
make sure that your putter is the proper length, swingweight, lie
angle, loft, head type, grip size, and more. When your putter fits
you, it becomes easier to consistently make your putting stroke.
Consistency is a key ingredient in putting. Anyone can make a 4 foot
putt. The trick is to have the confidence that you can make them
all.
We use high-speed digital cameras to
accurately measure the precise loft of your putter at impact, as
well as the distance that the ball skids before it begins rolling.
You cannot measure these critical variables without the proper
equipment. Our putter fitting session gives you the tools to be able
to lower your scores.

Fitting Process
|
The fitting process for Irons, Woods, and Hybrids includes the
following stages:
Player interview and Equipment analysis
Initially, we want to get information about your current playing
tendencies and equipment setup. Among the questions asked are:
-
How often do you play or practice?
-
What is your favorite club? Least favorite?
-
How consistent are your shots?
-
How many greens do you typically hit in regulation?
-
Which wedge do you typically use from the fairway and rough?
-
When playing sand shots, do you often leave the ball in bunkers
or blade it well past the pin?
Answering these questions as well as others will help us to get a
better idea of what you are doing and where you may need to make
improvements.
Warm-up and initial measurements
We have hundreds of test clubs to help us find the optimal
characteristics for anyone's swing. If you had to hit every one of
them your arms might fall off! In order to streamline things, we
take initial swing measurements and use the information as a
starting point in the selection process.
During your warm-up we can observe your swing and take some
initial measurements to determine what your swing mechanics are.
-
Do you have a consistent swing path? Is it inside/out or
outside/in?
-
Is your clubface open or closed at impact?
-
What is your shaft load profile? How aggressive is your
downswing? Is it smooth and fluid, or is it aggressive?
After selecting the initial test clubs, based on your swing, we then
head outside and begin the heart of the fitting process.
Performance testing and evaluation
The most important thing about club fitting is that the changes
result in an improvement. That's what performance testing boils down
to. We measure your swing and the flight of the golf ball and look
for improvement by changing club characteristics. Which club
characteristics improve distance? Which improve direction and
control?
It is often said that the shaft is the engine of the golf club.
In many ways this is true. Different shaft types and flexes will
result in better or worse shot results for different golfers. Our
goal is to find the optimal shaft for your swing. To do this, we
look at:
-
Optimal ball speed and clubhead speed
- this may not
necessarily be the highest possible speed. After all, just being
able to hit the ball further out of bounds isn't an improvement.
-
Optimal accuracy and control - which shaft characteristic allows
the ball to go where you want it, when you want it? For lower
handicaps, this means the ability to accurately control ball flight,
while for high handicaps, it may mean just being able to count on
repeatable results.
-
Consistent impact location - just how stable is the clubhead at
impact? Ideally the ball should hit the clubface in exactly the same
place (hopefully in the center of the face) each and every time. The
tighter the impact pattern is, the better your ability to control
the flight of the ball.
-
Improved feel - A properly fit golf club often feels better at
impact than one that is improperly fit. Improved feel often
translates into improved confidence.
Once we have identified the proper shaft, we continue to test you
dynamically for characteristics like lie angle, club length, and
swingweight. Making sure that these characteristics match your needs
helps to assure that you don't need to make unnecessary adjustments
to your swing.
Few people are aware of just how adaptable the body really can
be. Even with the incorrect shaft, golfers will try to adjust their
swing to make proper contact with the ball. The better your swing
mechanics are, the easier it is to make the necessary changes.
However, your performance can still suffer. Changing your swing to
match an incorrect shaft type or flex, or to adjust to an incorrect
lie angle can and often does result in decreased efficiency, so
either accuracy or distance will suffer. We often even see physical
discomfort result from changing your swing to try to match an
improperly fitted golf club
Equipment prescription
After we determine just what the optimal shaft is for you, we
then determine all of the other characteristics of your properly
fitting golf club including:
-
Club length
-
Lie angle
-
Swingweight
-
Grip size
-
Clubhead size, offset, and center of gravity
The final step in properly fitting your equipment is to select
appropriate components to fill out your complete set. The physical
make-up of your set is a combination of several key ingredients: the
specific shaft characteristics, playing specifications (length, lie
angle, etc), and the specific clubhead that fits your requirements,
both in terms of the appearance and the technical specifications
(offset, center of gravity, sole width, and bounce angle, etc).
While many of these variables are predetermined by performance
requirements, you have many options to choose between. The bottom
line is that you are getting the clubs that you want, but you are
getting them built the way that you need.
